New UK targets
This section shows the new "Intended cut" and "Interim target" emission trends for the UK. Hopefully, the Committee on Climate Change will encourage the government to adopt a 42% GHG cut by 2020.
A couple of new lines have been added to the following graph.
- The "Intended cut" line (in blue) has been added, which includes a new target

GHG cut of 42% by 2020, which has been recommended by the Committee on Climate Change (April 2009). Hopefully this will become legally binding in the future. Notice that this brings emissions down to meet the 450 ppm line, which would be encouraging. - The "Interim target", of a 34% cut by 2020, has also been added (in gray). This was made legally binding in the April 2009 Budget.
- All of the emission target lines are drawn for CO2 cuts, and assume that CO2 reductions will match what are really GHG targets. Plumes could be drawn for each of the lines (as discussed in the Revised CO2 targets page) but this would make the graph difficult to read...as before, the bands would be quite narrow anyway.
